let’s talk straight

The power of words is enormous. Very difficult to escape. At least for me. As my body is the food it eats, my mind is the words it absorbs. What is on offer on the market place of information is dominated by those with the most money and other resources. One doesn’t have to subscribe to either conspiracy theories or extreme post-modern positions to be theoretically aware of the very biased perspectives we ingest with the information that we are bombarded with. But how to sensitize oneself to the effects of this process as it is happening, not in general but with respect to concrete instances?

For that we’re dependent upon alternative voices, telling the “same” story in very different words. It’s a gift to be able to spot the ideological spicing of the container in which our mental food is served. I have great admiration for those who have that gift and love listening to them.

One of my favorites is George Carlin. Luckily there’s many many hours of George available on Youtube. Enjoy!

About roger henke

Still figuring out the story line that would satisfy myself here. Listening to what my family and friends evoke, what the words I absorb, the images that move me, the movements that still me, point to.
